Nakuru acting Speaker Eunice Wambui on Thursday had a difficult time controlling the assembly during the tabling of nominees to the County Land Management Board.

Lands Committee Chairman Jonathan Warothe, who had tabled the names, said they vetted seven nominees and four were found suitable for the job.

The names were however adopted by the assembly with amendments in a heated debate, where some MCAs questioned the criteria used by the committee to approve the four nominees.

Warothe recommended the appointment of Rose Wanjiru, Reuben Korir, Prengei Sitienei and Gaciku Kang’ari as board members, while Peter Oira, Elizabeth Njambi and Dorothy Aswan were rejected.

The chairman for lands had recommended that the National Land Commission appoints three other nominees to attain regional balance of representatives within the board.

However, Biashara MCA Stephen Kuria opposed the recommended, saying that the report should be amended to incorporate all the nominees as the committee had not given clear reasons for rejecting the three.

“This county does not belong to two tribes only. We have to include the other three names that were omitted,” he said.

Bahati MCA Peter Nderitu, who supported the inclusion of the names, said Nakuru is cosmopolitan and all tribes must be given equal representation.
