The residents have in past two weeks been decrying the shortage which was encountered in the whole area leading them to consume dumpsite water, which was termed as unhealthy for human consumption.

The Thika Water and Sanitation Company (Thiwasco) had issued a statement to the public to remain calm as the shortage was brought about by the little water in their reservoir which they said was as a result of little rains that fell.

The Witeithie ward public health officer Flora Gakui had cautioned the public against consuming the untreated water in the dumpsite, which she said might cause water-borne diseases.

Gakui said that it was better for the residents to use the little amount of the resource that was available in one of the water shops and cope with the situation as they wait for the rains.

Over the weekend, residents could be spotted rushing with their water containers to collect rainwater from the house roofs and thus the shortage was tamed over the weekend as the Thiwasco water taps are now overwhelmed with clean water.
