A tax driver Dan Onsase said the Bridge, was swept away due to the heavy downpour being experienced in the region.

“The Bridge was weak even before the flooding rain waters swept it away. No more motorists using the Igonga – Gesero – Gesonso route to access Kisii town,” said Onsase.

Kiriago Ombati a road engineer urged motorists especially Bodaboda riders to avoid crossing over the bridge to curb unnecessary deaths.

“Motorists mostly boda boda riders should avoid crossing the bridge because they risk being swept away with water. Alternative routes should be used to access Kisii town to allow relevant authorities to repair the bridge,” he said.

Kisii South OCPD David Mbarukua urged residents to avoid going near rivers because they may drown in the flooded rivers.

“Locals should stay dry all through this rainy season. We don’t want to hear people have drowned in rivers due to the ongoing heavy rainfall,” said the OCPD.
