Tension remained high along the Kisumu-Nandi border as authorities recovered two bodies claimed to be belonging to cattle rustlers.
Muhoroni sub county police boss Erastus Mwongera said there was heavy presence of police officers on the ground who had managed to calm down the situation.
Mr Mwongera confirmed that the death of the two middle aged men was as a result of being shot by arrows.
He said three others are recuperating in hospitals due to arrow wounds.
The police boss said police will be forced to patrol the area over night to avert any cases of retaliation.
“The situation is calming down but the officers will be stationed here overnight to monitor things. Some may be tempted to attack as a way of retaliation,” he said.
Mwongera said the situation has not gotten out of hand as they have managed to drive away the two warring communities back to their homes.
He said an investigation into the theft of animals from the two counties is on and promised that the culprits will be dealt with according to the law.
Mwongera said that police officers from the neighboring county of Nandi have also created a buffer zone to ensure that no more lives are lost.
