Heavy rainfall experienced in North Eastern last week has caused power interruptions in Mandera and Wajir counties.
According to a statement by the Kenya Power Company, heavy rains that caused flooding affected transportation of fuel to electricity generation stations in the two counties.
The power company said the contracted fuel supplier and their logistics team are looking for alternative means to deliver the fuel and prevent fuel shortage.
The customers living in other off-grid areas have been assured that they will not be affected as the power company has sufficient fuel stock for continuous generation and supply of electricity.
“Sections of the Garissa-Wajir Road near Habaswein have been flooded by the ongoing heavy rains affecting transportation of fuel supplies to electricity generating stations serving Mandera and Wajir counties. As a result of the floods which began last week, our fuel tankers are currently stalled at the banks of Ewaso Nyiro River in Garissa county. Consequently, power generation and supply to the counties is likely to be affected in the next two days,” said Kenya Power in the local dailies.
“We regret any inconvenience that has been caused by the fuel shortage and the likely disruption of electricity supply to Mandera and Wajir counties,” it added
