The weatherman has warned of heavy rains that might cause flooding in various parts of the Northern region starting this week.

Kenya Meteorological Department director Peter Ambenje said Kenyans should brace themselves for heavy rains in several parts of the country.

Mr. Ambenje said that most parts of the country would from Monday experience increased rainfall, amounting to more than 40mm in the next five days.

He said that Wajir, Isiolo and Marsabit counties will receive heavy rainfall adding that the heavy rainfall might lead to flash floods in the regions.

Other counties that will receive heavy rainfall include are Kisii, Kericho, Bomet, Narok, Migori, Kakamega, Kajiado, Nakuru, Kwale, Turkana, Samburu, Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, Lamu and Taita Taveta.

“Flood waters might suddenly appear in areas where it has not rained heavily and can be deeper and faster moving than it appears,” he said as quoted by Daily Nation.

Mr. Ambenje advised the people to be more cautious as the rains continue hitting many parts of the county warning those in low lying area to relocate to higher ground.
