Heavy rains on Monday displaced 800 families and rendered roads impassable in Merti Sub County, Isiolo County.

Floods disrupted learning at Merti and Macci secondary schools and 5 primary schools after Ewaso Nyiro River burst its banks.

Isiolo North lawmaker Hassan Odha said the fate of 400 goats and sheep and six herders is unknown after they were driven away be flooding rain water.

The MP  appealed NGOs and county government to intervene and help the flood victims with food.

Isiolo women representative Rehema Jaldesa said the county and national government had responded with relief food, medicine and water trucking to areas which were yet to get rainfall.

She appealed to herders grazing along Ewaso Nyiro River to move to higher grounds since the floods are dangerous during the wet seasons.

Isiolo South Mp Abdi Koropu said county leaders and health workers have been sent to Isiolo South and Merti areas to access the situation and report back within two days.

He noted that residents are yet to recover from the adverse effects of prolonged drought.
