The ongoing rains being witnessed in different parts of Machakos County have posed challenges in the distribution of KCSE examination papers in parts of Mavoko sub-county.

Deputy county commissioner Geoffrey Omoding said some of the roads; especially those leading to examination centers in Lukenya and Kinanie Divisions have been rendered impassible.

Addressing journalists in his Athi River office on Wednesday, Omoding said they have put up measures such as using tractors to ensure exam papers get to the affected schools in time.

“There was a lot of flooding in Embakasi area early in the morning but the situation has improved,” said Omoding.

1864 candidates are sitting for the national exams in the 40 centers in Mavoko.

Omoding, however, said the situation had not affected the delivery of exam papers, adding that the papers were delivered on time to the different exam centers.

“All schools started the examination at 8.30am as scheduled including candidates in centers where roads were impassable. We have put up mechanisms to ensure there are no delays in delivery,” said Omoding.

Omoding said they will not face similar challenges in 2018 since the government intends to upgrade all roads leading to schools, health centers and provincial administration headquarters across the sub-county.

“We will allocate National Roads Fund to improve the roads so as not to face same challenges next year. We intend to make schools, health centers, and provincial administration headquarters more accessible,” said Omoding.
