Transport along the Eldoret - Eldama Ravine road was on Monday paralysed after a cargo train derailed near the Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI) in the outskirts of Eldoret town.
The accident caused a heavy traffic snarl up along the road with motorist forced to use alternative roads.
According to the Kenya Railways North Rift coordinator Christopher Andimu, the train was transporting coils from Mombasa to Kampala roofings in neighboring Uganda.
Speaking to the press at the scene of the incident, Andimu said there were no casualties.
"The train derailed while crossing the Eldoret - Eldama Ravine road and only two wagons were affected. We have already opened the level crossings and replaced the road grills so that we can clear as fast as possible and allow normalcy to return on this road," Andimu said.
"We are yet to establish the cause of the incident but investigations are ongoing," he added.
