Heavy rains on Thursday evening destroyed two classrooms at Okiro Primary School in Awasi/Onjiko Ward in Nyando constituency.
The heavy storm blew off the rooftops of the two classrooms.
Nominated MCA Jane Omolo said the incident happened when there were no children in class due to the ongoing teachers’ strike.
“It is by the grace of God that children were still at home. We would be talking of a different story now,” she said.
Ms Omolo said the estimated cost of the destruction caused has not been quantified but called for quick help.
She said the school now needs an emergency fund to help in putting up the two classrooms.
Speaking to Hivisasa.com on phone, Ms Omolo called upon Nyando CDF and other well wishers to respond to the need of the school.
Ms Omolo said in case teachers call off their strike, pupils in the two classrooms will have no place to learn from.
“Something must be done and it must be quick, I appeal for an emergency fund at the CDF office in the constituency to come and help,” she said.
For the past three weeks, heavy rains has been pounding the Western Kenya region but no calamities have been reported.
