Kisii University Keroka campus is set to be closed in January 2017 by the Ministry of Education to comply with government's directive.

Speaking during protest by both parents and students, Clinton Nyandoro, a student, urged the two county bosses to help stop the closure until the current students admitted to the campus complete their courses.

“Some of us come from poor backgrounds, we are not able to pay rent in case we are transferred to the main campus. We ask our governors to intervene in the closure of Keroka campus until we complete our studies,” said Nyandoro.

His sentiments were echoed by Jackson Monari, a parent, who challenged all Gusii MPs to also intervene and stop the closure.

Among the Kisii University branches expected to be closed by January are Nyamira, Ogembo, Isebania and Kehancha.

According to the Commission of University Education, the students are expected to be moved to the main campus.
