A lobby group in Kisii County has urged the national and county governments to support motivational speakers in secondary school to curb rampant strikes.
Team Change 2017 leader, Abraham Ondieki said the destruction of school property by rioting students was causing suffering to poor parents who sacrificed to pays fees for their children.
Speaking to this writer in Kisii on Saturday, Ondieki who was accompanied by colleagues, Machuka Nyarieko, Eric Mbaka and Sam Nyemeri said majority of the students are unruly due to a break down in moral values.
He blamed the Education cabinet Secretary, Dr Fred Matiangi’s assertion that parents should pay money to reconstruct buildings torched by students, adding it will impoverish the parents as some of them are battling with terminal diseases which they are struggling to cope with.
“ We want the Education cabinet Secretary to reconsider and rescind his decision. Parents are poor and cannot afford to rebuilt the schools” said Ondieki.
Ondieki also noted that the children belong to the State and it is the prerogative of the state to construct school infrastructure to enhance conducive learning environment for the students as enshrined in the constitution.
Ondieki appealed to the managers of the affected schools to recall the students quickly and resume learning, stressing prolonged stay at home will affect their education and performance in national examination.
