Residents of Mekenene ward in Nyamira County have urged area the MP to help them establish a community library that will assist learners from the region to further their academic careers.

Speaking on Sunday at the area during a fundraiser towards the mega project, speakers urged Ben Momanyi to chip in and make a project a success for the sake of improving education standards in the region.

According to them, community libraries were solution to dwindling academic standards, with the region said to be performing dismally in national exams.

“Education is essential for our children but unfortunately, not every parent or school can afford to buy academic books for the noble course. We are determined to establish a community library in the region but that is a bit difficult for us. We need our MP to chip in and help us fulfill this noble project,” said Mr Francis Ominde.

At least 1-hactare piece of land has been set aside for the project with organisers targeting locals and institutions around to contribute towards the noble project.

“This is a huge project and I want to assure everyone it will be a success. We are targeting locals and the institutions around to invest in the project. We must remember that our children belong to the community and when one succeeds, the whole village benefits,” added Mr Cleophas Orina.

They challenged the MP to consider aiding the project since it will serve more than 2,000 students from both the primary and secondary level.
