Residents of Gilanis area in Shabab now want the county government to create a proper waste management plan that will rid the area of molasses. They cited that majority of the molasses ended up in roads and hence dirtying the environment. “It just get poured anywhere and children are often seen picking and licking the substance which might pose a health problem to them. We do not know what is contained in the molasses and hence are worried by the increased cases of them complaining of stomach aches” cited Priscila Njambi Njambi cited that it put the young children at risk since they did not spot any oncoming vehicle whiel they were eating the substance. “Many have missed being crushed by a whisker. The accidents caused by bicycles in the area are also alarming.” She cited Elsie Nyawira cited that the stench from the molasses was also disturbing. “It’s irritating and has been causing me stomach aches. We would want the Environment department to help control that,” he cited Stephen Wanjohi called for the county to create a law seeking to have the industries which use the molasses dispose it well. “Why are they dumping it to us in the informal settlements? Its not fair,” he cited
