Nakuru town's Kaptwembo residents are now appealing to the government to help them purify rain water for their own consumption. The residents said that they have been having a problem accessing clean water and were relying on the rainwater. The said that the water contained a lot of impurities which might affect the quality of the water they harvested. “Being an informal settlement, even the roofs are dirty and yet they are what we use to trap the water. In some cases, even the rust on the roof is mixed with the drinking water,” said Gideon Kimani, a resident. Isaac Kamau, also a resident, said that in some cases the water tanks were full of worms. “We are also concerned about the mud that comes as a result of collecting the water. We need methods of separating the water from the impurities and make it clean,” said Kimani. He called on the county government to provide them with water guard and proper water dispensers. “Buying mineral water from the supermarket is very expensive. The only way we can be sure of clean water is if we purify the water ourselves. This will also help us prevent water borne diseases,” said Gibson Irungu, a resident.
