Speaking on Saturday during an emergency meeting, they accused owners of Omoremi Sacco for allegedly defrauding those millions of shillings that were meant for tea bonuses in 2013 by failing to owner their promise of refunding them.

They further challenged the government to freeze assets of the proprietors of the Sacco, which is also being pursued by another group of people for allegedly selling them a controversial piece of land.

“We have gathered here today to ask for an urgent help from the government because our money has been irregularly taken by officials of the defunct Sacco. We have been following the Sh50 million since 2013 but we are yet to receive anything,” said Mrs Tabitha Kerauni.

“They kept on deceiving us of the payment but all of them have gone missing. If the government freezes the bank accounts of the founders because we have the names, then it will be a vital step towards bringing them to book,” added Silvanus Ochengo.

Nyansiongo factory chairperson Christopher Nyakora who was in attendance challenged the government to come up with concrete policies that will govern formation of Sacco.

“The government should come up with stiff rules to curb similar incidents in future. It becomes a burden to peasant farmers when they are robbed what is rightfully theirs,” he said.
