A widower who has been hawking with his child held at the back has finally got some relief after the county government came to his aid.
Daniel Ngugi, a banana hawker at Thika town, and a father of three, was interviewed on TV after his predicament caught the attention of the reporter. This exposed him to the public and offers for help started streaming in.
At the time, he had his nine-month-old daughter on his bosom as he carried out his activities.
County youth CeC Machel Waikenda has followed up on the case and on Monday, Ngugi had his twins registered at the Kenyatta early chiledhood development ccentre. In addition, he was promised that he would have a business premise in Witeithie estate.
Ngugi lost his family in an accident in April last year and he was left raising the three children single-handedly.
His wife, Medline Chebet, was among family members who died during the Nakuru-Eldoret road crash. Since then, he has taken care of his children by hawking bananas in the streets of Thika.
Ngugi remains optimistic that he will be able to educate his children and give them a better life.
He said he appreciates the government’s helping hand and is looking forward to growing the opportunity.
Waikenda lauded him for his perseverance in the hardship.
