The incident follows an organised assault where armed goons suspected to be from the Chardende community stormed the calm village with the intention of stealing livestock.

Among those injured are Mohamed Mahatt and Abdullahi Salat both from Garissa county.

Reports from the affected households indicate that the goons made away with ten cows. Mahat is now admitted at the Garissa County Referral Hospital after he sustained deep cuts on his head and back.

The men ambushed the village at around midnight on Friday. According to Mahat, a commotion was first heard before the assailants struck.

“There was a commotion before the incident, but the armed attackers were already too close. They were heavily armed with pangas, which they used to strike my back and neck. I tried to dodge but they finally overpowered me,” Mahat revealed.

The injured Mahat further disclosed that the attack was prompted by two elderly who claimed to be the legitimate inhabitants to the disputed land.

He said that on the fateful day, the duo visited his homestead in the morning and and demanded that they leave the place.

“They lived by their words. Just a few hours later they made good of their threats and ambushed us,” Mahat added.
