The national drought Management authority has said that herders and livestock in Wajir County are at risk of starvation because of the ongoing drought in this part of the nation.

The drought  situation in this region can be attributed to the failure of both the short and long rains. Yasin Farah, the county National Management Authority Coordinator, has said that the problem of water shortage has persisted following the drying of pans.

The lack of water has led to the lack of pasture thereby making life unbearable for both livestock and herders who depend on the animals for their livelihoods.

Local residents have continued to express concern over the weather situation in the area and called upon both the national and county government to come to their rescue during this difficult moment, adding that their animals are starving.

“Every evening I have to feed my already weak cattle with part of the family super to give them energy to stay alive for another day,” said Habiba Alli, one of the local residents, as quoted by Star.

The cost of buying feed for the livestock has also increased thereby making life more unbearable.
