Machakos county is flooded with many male legislators and leaders which proves the fact that men are still holding many leadership positions while discarding their female counterparts.
It is just the other day that Machakos county woman representative Dr Susan Musyoka was urging women not to shy away from vying for political seats.
While male dominance is staring at us in the face, there are a few women who have defied all odds to rise to the top of the leadership structure in Machakos county.
While not all of them are in politics, when these women talk, everyone listens. When they walk, they turn heads.
In short, they are a force to reckon with:
1.Dr Susan Musyoka
Dr Susan Musyoka was elected Machakos county woman Representative in 2013 under Wiper party. She is a trained doctor who has practiced medicine at Machakos hospital, Embu hospital and even in her private clinic. She calls herself a visionary leader who believes in transparency and accountability. A heuis also a founder member of Kenya medical women association (KMWA). She attended Matungulu primary school, Nakuru girls high school and the University of Nairobi.
2.Wavinya Ndeti
Wavinya Ndeti vied for Machakos gubernatorial seat in 2013 but lost to the current Machakos governor Alfred Mutua. Known as a tough-talking woman, Ndeti is not new to politics. She does not fear men and she is on record saying that she can do better than Alfred and Sonko. She was a member of parliament for Kathiani constituency from 2008 to 2013. She was also appointed an assistant minister for Youth affairs and sports. She grew up in Makadara in Athi river.
3.Lilian Ng'ang'a
Popularly known as the first lady of Machakos county, Lilian turns heads wherever she goes. Her beauty has seen her gracing the front pages of Fashion magazines in Kenya. She is the second wife of Machakos governor Alfred Mutua. She has warmed the heart of many residents of Machakos with her care and concern for street children and orphans. She's also been in the forefront in the cancer awareness campaigns.
4.Francisca Mutinda
Francisca Mutinda is the chairlady of Maendeleo Ya wanawake organisation (MYWO) Machakos chapter. She is in the forefront in the fight against domestic violence. Since she was elected the chair of MYWO, she has taken the fight against domestic violence to the next level. A hard worker and she who is known not to mince her words, Mutinda has vowed to end violence against women and vulnerable girls in Machakos county.
