Forbes Africa has listed the top ten wealthiest musicians in the continent with Nigeria taking the lion’s share. The May Edition ranking was based on popularity, YouTube views, endorsement value, show rates, appearance in newspapers, influence, social media presence and investment among other factors.

Some of the most celebrated names that are featured include Black Coffee, Zimbabwean finest Oliver Mutukudzi and South African superstar Hugh Masekela as reported by thisisafrica.me.

There is also urbanization of formerly traditional tunes like afro-beat. The rapid growth of media and entertainment industry in Nigeria was said to be the reason behind it dominance.

Some of the listed are world icons in this industry. Oliver Mutukudzi outshines Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson by releasing 65 great albums over 41 years of a stellar career. The world of Jazz also appreciates Hugh Masekela who has 43 albums and has performed with Fela Kuti, Miriam Makeba, Marvin Gaye, The Byrds, Dizzy Gillespie and Steve Wonder.

Despite the criticism of including USA based artists, the list appreciates African musicians from the African Continent.
