Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua, Former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and Mike Sonko will play an immense role in the presidential race come 2022. The three leaders have shown the nation that they are forces to reckon with.
Mutua has stood strong amidst the force of the National Super Alliance (NASA) to defeat Former Kathaini MP Wavinya Ndeti in one of the most watched races at the governorship level. Mutua defected from Wiper and formed Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement.
The political outfit has grown from being homegrown to get the national outlook after fronting candidates in different elective posts not only in Machakos but also entire nation. Mutua’s political strength has grown over years, and come 2022 he will not be a push over.
Kalonzo for his part is still the most powerful Kamba politician. The former vice president played a pivotal role in NASA. Both Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta kept courting Kalonzo until the last week to the polls because they knew his influence in Ukambani could not be ignored.
Sonko is also another powerful leader from Ukambani to watch in 2022. Sonko’s political journey has been marred but all sorts of challenges. The newly elected governor of Nairobi commands a lot of support from Ukambani and the entire nation.
