Kenya is a land of scholars. Despite the recent concern of leaders with fake papers, there are several county bosses with impressive academic records. Here are four of the most educated count bosses. The list is, however, subject to correction.
1. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o
The former senator is among the most educated governors in Kenya. Nyon'go, the incumbent Kisumu governor, completed his undergraduate studies at Uganda’s Makerere University, where he was awarded a 1st class honors degree in political science. He later went for graduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Chicago. In Chicago, he acquired a Master’s and Ph.D. in political science. He has worked for different institutions including Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, University of Nairobi and African Academy of Sciences.
2. Kivutha Kibwana
Born in Mwanyani, Makueni county, Prof. Kivutha Kibwana is no doubt one of the most educated county bosses in the nation. He attended Machakos School for his O’ & A’ Levels. He holds an undergraduate law degree from the University of Nairobi Upper Second Class Honours and a masters in Theological studies from the Africa International University. He is also a graduate Student (SJD) of George Washington University, USA: International Law; International Human Rights Law; Comparative Law; Jurisprudence and Legal Theory.
3. Paul Kiprono Chepkwony
The ranking of the most educated county bosses will be incomplete if we do not recognize Paul Kiprono Chepkwony. He attended Kericho High School before joining the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture in 1989 to pursue a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry. He later joined the University of Nairobi to pursue a Master’s degree in Chemistry. His academic excellence is among the reasons he was elected to lead the county.
4. Joyce Cherono Laboso
Laboso defied all odds to rise to the top despite facing stiff competition from men during the August 2017 General elections. She is the first female governor of Bomet County. She attended Kenyatta University (B.ed (arts) French, Literature, and Education). She is also a holder of Masters teaching English as a foreign language from the University of Reading, UK and Ph.D. gender and language education from the University of Hull, UK.
