The county and national government have put in place the necessary measures to ensure Machakos town is secure ahead of Mashujaa day celebrations.

Speaking to journalists at a breakfast briefing in Machakos on Tuesday, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho said that the government has completed issues related to traffic flow, security and general protocol procedures as the nation looks forward to celebrating this national holiday outside Nairobi for the first time.

"All rehearsals for the day's occasion have been done and gates to the celebrations venue- Kenyatta Stadium- will be open to the public as early as 5.30am tomorrow," said Kibicho.

He also noted that Wananchi are expected to be seated in the Stadium by 8.30am. Kibicho affirmed that there is optimum security inside and outside the 20000 capacity stadium.

"We have also enhanced security coverage through CCTV surveillance from Chumvi to Machakos Town," he said.

Drivers moving into and through Machakos town will experience interruption during the day following new rules to regulate the flow of traffic.

Motorists from Nairobi to Machakos Town will have to pass through Machakos Teachers' Training College to Kangundo Road and then head to Mjini area in Machakos town.

Drivers from Makueni will have to turn off at Vota before joining Mombasa road at Katumani-Vota junction. Motorists may also follow Katumani-Vota road to Nairobi.

Those heading to Makueni will take Mombasa road, divert towards Vota before joining Wote junction road. From Kitui to Nairobi, drivers will divert at Kennol petrol station as they head to Machakos Hospital and then proceed to Katumani-Vota junction and join Mombasa road via Vota.
