Think you know Kenya like the back of your palm? Well, here are the 3 things I am sure you did not have any idea about.
1. Kenya has one of the strongest armies in the World
With a standing defense force of about 24,120 soldiers subdivided into the Kenya Army, Navy, and Air Force, The country is ranked 46th strongest in the world and 6th on the continent. Most of her inputs and weapons are supplied by the United States, Ukraine, Russia, Republic of South Africa, United Kingdom, Germany and France. Some of her most powerful weapons include the Nora B-52, a self propelled artillery imported from Serbia. Kenya has 30 of these.
KDF also brags of the Carl Gustav riffles from Sweden. However some of these may be hard to see as they are kept awaiting emergencies and very serious situations.
In military debates, Kenya is therefore described as the ''Strong Silent'' type.
2. She is among the oldest places in the world and has proof about it
Kenya has the Great Rift Valley which cuts straight through it. The valley which is visible from space is said to have been formed about 20 million years ago when the earth's crust started splitting. Some parts like Turkana and Hyrax in Nakuru are the places where paleolithic remains of Early Man were found, making scientists to consider Kenya the birth place of humanity.
3. Elizabeth became Queen of England while in Kenya
Princess Elizabeth and her husband Phillip were living at the Treetops Hotel in Central Kenya before her father King George VI died. She had to fly back home to be crowned. However, she technically became Queen of England while in Kenya.
