Kisii county health authorities have spelled out dangers for skipping the vaccination against Measles and Rubella as primary schools were transformed into immunisation centers.
The authorities hastened to clarify that the vaccines were safe and crucial in averting deaths and disabilities in children between nine months and 14 years.
Speaking during the launching of the national immunisation exercise for the county at Kisii primary school, Member of Executive Committee in charge of health Mrs Sarah Omache announced the consequences in store for children who missed the jab.
Omache cited World Health Organization’s advisory on the Measles’ signs as high fever, whitish spots on the cheeks and mental disorders among others.
Equally severe, she said were the symptoms for Rubella whose vaccine was being administered for the first time in Kenya, which included low fever, swollen glands, painful joints and deaths.
Health experts used the occasion to sensitise the children on the ongoing Guinea worm eradication campaign disclosing a Sh100,000 prizes money for whoever will report the case for medical attention.
Diseases thought to have been contained through immunization have come back to haunt the children prompting current intensified multiple vaccines administration.
