Cancer has become one of the most stubborn and torturous diseases in the country with a number of patients being put under successful medical observations while others succumbing.
However, most people only know several popular types of cancer like the breast and skin cancer but are unaware that there are even more types of the disease.
Here are some of them:
1. Bladder Cancer
This is the type of cancer that specialises on the bladder, an elastic organ that is responsible for storing urine that is released by the kidneys. There are several types of bladder cancer, some being more common than others. The most common type of bladder cancer is endothelial carcinoma, accounting for about 90% of bladder cancer cases.
The remaining types of bladder cancer are rare and include squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, small cell carcinoma, leiomyosarcoma, lymphoma, and melanoma. The disease's symptoms include painful urination, blood in the urine and frequent urination.
2. Breast cancer
This is a type of cancer that occurs when a malignant tumor forms from cells within the breast. It is frequent in women but can also affect men. On most occasions, it is caused by family planning chemicals, genetics (passed genetically from parent to child), age and alcohol consumption.
3. Leukemia
Is a disease that affects blood-forming cells in the body thus causing overproduction of white blood cells. In its first stages, it starts in the bone marrow before spreading to other parts.
The symptoms include fever, recurrent infections, excessive bruising, fatigue, physical exercise intolerance, abdominal pain, unintentional weight loss, abnormal bleeding, enlargement of the lymph nodes spleen and/or liver, and weakness.
4. Other types of cancer
The other types include colon cancer (large intestines), endometrial cancer (endometrium, women uterus lining), lung cancer (affects the lungs - caused mostly by smoking), Kidney cancer, thyroid cancer (affects the thyroid glands located on the front side of the neck), prostate cancer (develops in the prostate)
