The plan identifies three strategic goals to be achieved in the next five years. The goals include: Delivery on NACC’s key functions, oversight for the delivery of Kenya AIDS Strategic Framework (KASF) and strengthening NACC’s institutional capacity.

According to NACC’s statistics available online, the annual rate of new infections as at 2013 stood at 88,000 among adults and 13,000 among children. Key populations contribute 30% of new infections although their absolute population is estimated at less than 500,000. Married and cohabiting unions account for 45% of new infections, with approximately 260,000 HIV sero-discordant couples. Young women aged less than 24 years, including those who constitute key populations account for 21% of new infections. Among youth aged (15-24), HIV prevalence among women is higher (4.3%) than men at (1.1%).

In the strategic plan, HIV/AIDS statistics for all the 47 counties are also presented. Here are the statistics for Machakos county.Adult HIV/AIDS prevalence in Machakos County stands at 5 %. This is not bad compared to 23.7% and 25.7% for Siaya County and Homa Bay County respectively.
