Although the common mwananchi is overly concerned about the government's ban of plastic bags, some will be delilghted to hear that the ban is not on all plastic commodities.
This came after the government exempted these products following successful last-minute appeals.
According to Environment PS Charles Sunkuli, polythene waste bin liners as well as primary food packages will be excluded.
“We want the public to know it’s not a total ban, there are several exemptions made by stakeholders who have made appeals,” Sunkuli said on Wednesday at a press conference in Nairobi.
Sunkuli said that industrial primary packaging will still use polythene bags as long as the product is in direct contact with the bag.
“For instance bread, sweets and sausages packaging will still continue using the polythene bags,” Sunkuli said.
