Njiru, a veteran communications officer, has served the presidency for 43 years.

Moi’s former private secretary John Lokorio said Njiru retired on June 30 2017.

“As far as we are concerned, Mr Njiru has retired. His term ended in June last year after several contract extensions. The position he held has already been filled by Alex Kiprotich, whom Mr Njiru taught for a year, and then he left,” Lokorio said.

Kiprotich is the current Standard Group Nakuru Bureau chief.

He is known within Nakuru as the no-nonsense scribe who does not condone brown envelop journalism.
