The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has issued an announcement that will possibly see most of the political aspirants locked out.
The agency said any aspirant who intends to vie in any election, as an Independent candidate, should not have engaged in any political party, three months to elections.
''Anyone who intends to vie as an Independent candidate must not be a member of a Political Party at least 3 months to the polls,'' IEBC said on Twitter, Tuesday.
This could deal a major blow to aspirants who lose in party primaries, whose deadline is April 31, 2017.
Most of the aspirants who lose in the nominations could possibly want to vie as Independent candidates, in the August 8, elections.
One of the aspirants who already announced to vie independently is Funyula MP Paul Otuoma. He claimed the ODM party denied him victory and gave to incumbent governor Sospeter Ojaamong' after he rigged him out in primaries.
Otuoma seeks to oust ODM's Ojaamong'.
