Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka is a man under siege after the Senate Public Accounts Committee put him to task to explain why his county government operates more than 100 bank accounts.

According to the Senate Committee chair Anyang' Nyong'o, Bungoma County owns more than 152 accounts.

Nyong'o said the accounts had a sum of over Sh1.5 billion as of June 30, 2015, and should be causing administrative challenges and expensive to manage.

However, in a quick rejoinder, Lusaka said that of the 152 accounts, 90 bursary and ward development accounts, have been closed.

He also said the confusions and increase in accounts are because each Member of County Assembly (MCA) in Bungoma demanded an account, but they have so far closed all the accounts.

"There was confusion when we started distributing bursaries and ward funds, with each of the 45 MCAs insisting on having cash on his ward," he said.
