Barely two days after Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua died, the family has spoken for the first time on his death wish.
The family said the late Gachagua died succumbed to pancreatic cancer.
According to Citizen Digital, Gachagua had requested to be flown back to his Hiriga home before his death.
Gachagua's body will be flown in the country on Thursday and later buried in Nyeri county.
The governor's brother Rigathi Gachagua said the family had even planned to fly him back to Kenya but they had to stop because he was too weak.
"The governor wanted to come and rest at home, in fact, it was his wish to come and rest here in the county," said Rigathi.
Gachagua becomes the first governor to die in office.
On Monday his deputy is set to take over the instruments of power in the county.
