Last Friday, Nairobi senator Mike Sonko caused commotion during the burial of Chama cha Uzalendo leader Wavinya Ndeti's husband Henry Oduwole in Kinanie, Machakos county.
Sonko was alleged (he has since denied the allegations claiming the video clip was edited) to have said that he is the acting president since both the president and the deputy president were out of the country.
He said he was the third in command. Here is a chain of command that the flamboyant senator might have overlooked.
The constitution clearly states that when the president is absent or incapacitated, or if the president resigns or dies, the deputy president will be the acting president.
If both the president and the deputy president are absent, the speaker of the national assembly shall be the acting president and elections to the office of the president shall be held within 60 days after the vacancy arose in the office of the president.
The mourners were indeed right to heckle him.
