A research conducted by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has revealed that Mandera County is the most corrupt in North Eastern region.

According to Rev. Eliud Wabakala, Chairperson of EACC, Marsabit was also among counties ranked as the most corrupt while Tana River and Wajir were found to be the least corrupt counties.

Speaking during the release of the 2016/2017 corruption survey report at his office on Tuesday, Mr Wabakala said the commission is committed to eradicating corruption.

“The overall objective of the survey is to generate data that will feed the anti-corruption strategy in the country.”

“The commission has so far recovered assets worth Sh6.7 billion and we are looking to return them to the rightful owners,” he said.

Traffic Department, Health Ministry, Immigration Department, Constituency Development Fund and Education Ministry were also top on the corruption list.

Murang’a county was ranked as the most corrupt, Trans Nzoia was ranked with a bribe perception of 84 per cent followed by Mandera with 79.4 per cent, Kirinyaga 78.9 per cent, Marsabit 78.2 per cent and Tharaka Nithi with 75.7 per cent.

Lamu, Taita Taveta, Wajir, Tana River, Kwale and Kericho counties ranked the least corrupt counties.

The report indicated that most graft cases in the counties are reported in public works, education, childcare and medical services areas, finance and procurement departments.
