Despite National Super Alliance (NASA) Principals led by Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula urging their Senators and MPs to boycott Tuesday's presidential address of Senate and Parliament,Webuye East MP Alfred Sambu was among the attendees.
The Amani National Congress (ANC) legislator was the only one in Opposition to offer audience to President Uhuru Kenyatta's speech which was dominated by Jubilee Party affiliated MPs.
President Kenyatta had on Monday dared NASA legislators to boycott the address, saying that they will not prevent the parliament from playing the legislative role.
"When you do not come to parliament, it is the people you represent who suffer since their issues will not be articulated," said the President.
He added that the Constitution grants him powers to address the house as long as he is the sitting Head of State.
On the other hand, Bungoma County Senator Moses Wetangula said the President does not have a right to address the legislators since he is not newly elected.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Chairperson John Mbadi echoed the remarks, saying that they will only be addressed by a newly elected President.
