A governor elected on an ODM ticket has hinted at ditching the opposition party.
Vihiga's Wilbur Otichilo has indicated that he will be defending his seat on the Amani National Congres ticket.
His plans to jump ship to ANC are part of the plan by Western MPs to unite behind Musalia Mudavdi ahead of the 2022 general election.
During Maragoli Cultural Day, Ottichilo said that he will use his position as governor to ensure Mudavadi takes power from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“We have supported ODM and Raila for a long time and its now our time to stamp our authority. We have the numbers to make Mudavadi president with little support from other regions," said Otichilo.
A number of MPs from Western have come out to state that they will rally behind Mudavadi's presidential bid in 2022.
Mudavadi's bid has drawn support from both Jubilee and NASA leaders from the region.
Calls to have Mudavadi run for the presidency have been intesified by recent endorsement of Kalonzo Musyoka by NASA leader Raila Odinga.
The MPs claim that prior to the August 8 polls, there was no 2022 pact signed between the opposition principals.
