Despite facing numerous challenges such as inheriting obligations from the defunct local government, the Nairobi County Government says it has made positive impact to its residents and the national government.

Governor Dr Evans Kidero says the County's obligations stands at Sh47 billion but it has managed to improve various services.

Kidero said 30 per cent of the County budget has been allocated towards improvement of health-care services.

"Mbagathi hospital now has a new 120 bed capacity maternity ward, 20 incubators and a 112 body capacity mortuary. Mutuini Hospital has a 24 bed capacity maternity hospital," he said.

He noted Pumwani Maternity Hospital now has an increased maternity bed capacity of 754 which has led to a 40 per cent increase in births in one year, besides acquiring three ambulances bringing the total stock to 36.

On infrastrucure, Kidero disclosed City Hall has so far used Sh2.7 billion since 2013.

He said 1,300km of roads have been repaired, 6 bridges built, 2,000km of drains maintained, 25,000 new streetlights installed in addition to the 30,000 that was there before.

"6,000 high mast floodlights have been installed in informal settlements, improving security by 50 per cent."

"Eleven (11) new operational ECDE classrooms were put up, 5 other dilapidated ECDE centers rehabilitated and equipped. These outputs have had a quick impact on enrolment at that level pushing up Net Enrollment Rate (NER) by 15.12%, with a total enrollment of 11,683 learners with a gender parity of 1," said the governor.

He was speaking during the 5th Annual Congress of the Forum of Chairpersons of Constitutional Commissions and holders of independent offices at Charter Hall, Wednesday.
