Social media has been awash with #weknowyoursalary debate since President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that lifestyle audit will be done to all civil servants in the ongoing fight against corruption.
Uhuru made the announcement during his recent tour in Mombasa where he launched several development projects.
The President promised to lead by example.
“Mimi nitaongoza kwa kufanyiwa audit, alafu huyu (his deputy) alafu gavana …hivyo hivyo kila mtu,” the head of state said.
According to the Salary and Renumeration Commission (SRC), President Uhuru Kenyatta earns Sh1.4 million per month as salary.
His deputy takes home Sh1.2 million.
This is, however, less the various allowance packages they enjoy courtesy of the office they hold.
