Garissa legislative aspirant Farah Maalim is undoubtedly Raila's right hand man. The duo have been reading from similar scripts and wherever Raila is, one will never miss the face of Maalim.
However, what many do not know is the genesis of their cordial political relationship.
Given the fact that both vocal politicians have held powerful positions in Kenya's history, it is obvious that the duo must have one time shared the vision of uniting the country.
What is more identical between the opposition politicians is their zeal and vibrancy in advocating for the respect and prevalence of human rights.
Backtracking to November 2012, Maalim led a group of legislators in criticizing Kenyan soldiers of fomenting gross violence and using extreme force during a security swoop in Garissa.
Maalim even suggested that the exercise that warranted the deployment of the soldiers was unconstitutional and also, had not received the requisite parliamentary approval. To express his dissatisfaction, he threatened to take the matter to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Similarly, Odinga is on record for championing for justice for post election violence victims whose human rights were widely violated during the 2007/2008 post poll skirmishes.
Therefore, the two politicians are synonymous with human rights activism, and this could be interpreted as the unifying factor behind their similar political ideologies.
