Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has officially been sworn in for a second term in office after an overwhelming win during the August 8 polls.

Constitutionally, he is ineligible to run for another term and in 2022 August, his new five-year mandate will come to an end, paving way for another person. With ODM being the dominant party in the county, the 2022 race will be for an ODM candidate to lose if the current political dynamics in the country do not change. After establishing herself as a formidable force in the county, Malindi MP-elect and outgoing Women Rep Aisha Jumwa may be Kingi's heir apparent. In terms of political influence, only Kingi beats Jumwa in terms of following in the vast coastal county, and by 2022, she will be ripe for the top county job.Though she has had political differences with Kingi in the past, the two have buried the hatchet, a clear indicator that Kingi may be ready to throw his weight behind the outspoken MP-elect.Jumwa who has risen on the political ladder over the years once served as a councilor in the defunct Kilifi Municipal Council before her political career finally took off in 2013 when she was elected Women Rep.She is currently pursuing a degree in Leadership at the African Leadership University, probably in readiness for the 2022 governor race.
