We have all had an experience with someone who snores and it's not the best. It makes it difficult for those around to sleep and the person snoring may also experience breathing difficulties.
In my recent article http://hivisasa.com/posts/crazy-things-your-body-does-during-sleep, we learned that one cause of snoring is throat constriction which happens during sleep. This should not worry you anymore since there are easy solutions you can try at home to help yourself and those around you.
First, if you snore, never sleep on your back. According to experts, those who snore do it loudest when they are sleeping on their back. When you sleep on your back, the throat tissues tend to block the airway making breathing difficult. According to National Sleep Foundation, your tongue is likely to slip towards the back of your throat further obstructing the airway. To solve this, simply try and sleep on your side.
You might have noted that many people snore with their mouths open. This is because they sleep on their back and the tongue rolls back to the throat. They thus open their mouths in a struggle to breathe. Sleeping on your side will help solve all this.
A chin strap beneath your chin also comes in handy for anyone with a snoring problem. The strap will help to keep your throat firm and reduce the vibrations during breathing. The strap will also ensure that your throat is held in position to avoid the blockage of the airway. You can use a small pillow or your hand to prop up your chin if you don't have a strap.
Use a pillow. While a pillow may be quite uncomfortable to some people, it as an excellent solution for snoring. The pillow ensures your head is elevated in such a way that the throat tissues do not relax obstructing the airway. The pillow also helps in reducing nasal congestion which is another major cause of snoring. With a pillow, you are able to breathe easily and thus enjoy a peaceful and quiet sleep.
