Kilifi politicians who lost in the August 8 polls say they will write a protest letter to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) or seek legal redress to contest the results.

If all this fails, they have threatened to invoke the people’s power, and stage demos to ensure the elected leaders are out of office. The election losers, among them Gideon Mung’aro who ran for governorship on a Jubilee Party ticket, Mustapha Idd, Emma Mbura and Peter Shee, say they want a ‘credible election’ held, claiming the August 8 one was not free and fair. They allege that the elections were rigged, poll officials bribed and that illiterate voters were made to tick candidates who were not their preferred choice. The politicians, some of them from the JP, Maendeleo Chap Chap, UDP, Kanu, Wiper, Kadu Asili and even independents, are said to have ganged up against Governor-elect Amason Kingi and other winners.“Should this fail, people’s power will come to play and office bearers, mostly Kingi, will be uprooted,” said the politicians as quoted by The Star.According to the daily, the politicians said they will do anything within their power to ensure Kingi vacates office.
