President Uhuru Kenyatta has come out to defend Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i who has been under heavy criticism from the National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders.

The opposition leaders have been accusing Matiang'i, who is now the acting Interior CS, of being used by the Jubilee administration to rig the August 8 General Election.

They have also castigated the CS for opposing their strategy to 'adopt a polling station' in the election slated for early next month.

But speaking in Nyamira County on Friday, the President accused Raila of regarding Matiang'i with distaste since his appointment to replace former Interior CS the late Joseph Nkaissery.

"I wonder why Raila dislikes Matiang’i yet when he goes to seek votes in Kisii region he says he is at home," remarked the Head of State speaking at Nyansiongo in Borabu Constituency.

Uhuru asked the ODM leader to stop intimidating and interfering with the work of government officials and instead focus on selling an agenda that would ensure a poll win.

“We are telling Odinga to compete with me and my deputy instead of attacking Matiang’i for discharging his given duties. He should compete with us in politics," the Jubilee Party leader said, as quoted by the Star.

Uhuru was accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto, CS Matiang’i, Nyamira Jubilee governor aspirant Walter Nyambati and Senator candidate Joseph Kiangoi.
