Deputy President William Ruto has asked the Kamba community to support President Uhuru Kenyatta in the repeat presidential election slated for next month.

Speaking in Machakos County during a campaign rally, Ruto told residents that they made a 'mistake' in the August  8 poll by backing the National Super Alliance (NASA) candidate, Raila Odinga.

"We have another opportunity to cast our votes. This is a chance for those who made a mistake last time to cast their vote correctly," Ruto said on Sunday, as quoted by the Nation.

With Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka as his running mate, Raila was overwhelmingly voted for by the Kamba community.

The Deputy President cited various project the Jubilee administration has initiated in the region, urging residents to back President Kenyatta who he said has the interests of Ukambani people at heart.

"You have been in the Opposition for long. It is time to consider to be part of the Jubilee government where your issues will be sorted out properly," he remarked.

Ruto was accompanied by various leaders including MPs from the region: Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town), Rachel Nyamai (Kitui South), Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East) and Mwala's Vincent Musyoka.
