Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, CEO Kenya Film Classification Board was a guest speaker at the Intergenerational Dialogue Forum held at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) on April 13, 2018.
In his address, Dr. Mutua emphasized the three principles namely Meritocracy, Pragmatism, and Honesty (MPH) that were instrumental in building the current Singapore that is now a first world economy far much ahead of Kenya.
“Singapore is a country that was destined for failure in 1965 and was behind Kenya in all aspects of development. Yet, today Singapore is a shining example of success and development way ahead of Kenya in both per capita income and general standards of living,” said Dr. Mutua.
He was emphatic that like Singapore, successful people in life are those that uphold honesty as a foundation for values, and a people who are most practical in building their own future and identity through innovation.
Dr. Mutua emphasized on the three E’s of Success namely Education, Experience and Exposure, encouraging the yotuths to exploit their talents.
Citing Hollywood, the CEO stated that the creative economy of the USA thrives on the passionate pursuit of talents, with education and exposure furthering gifts.
In concluding his address, Mutua mentioned of the sensational hype of youth posting indecent photographs on social media stating that the trending images were evidence of a disturbed generation in dire need for guidance.
“As a country, we have put more focus on physical infrastructure and neglected the moral infrastructure, we are building the hardware but the software is faulty and must be addressed,” he said.
The forum dubbed 'Building Opportunity Bridges', aimed at creating awareness on empowerment opportunities available for youths through, Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO), Enterprise Development, Innovation, Ethics and Values.
