Speaking during a consultative meeting on voter mobilisation at Odino in Nyakach Constituency on Sunday, Raila blamed the low turnout in the registration of voters in Nyanza region to delayed issuance of Identity (ID) cards, the Star has reported.

The former Prime Minister said the NRB was taking too long to process and issue the document, thereby demoralising many youths from the region who want to enlist as voters.

“Our people must be given equal opportunity to register. We are telling the registration department to fast-track the issuance of IDs in line with President Kenyatta’s directive,” he said.

The Opposition leader observed that new applicants are forced to queue for long hours and wait for even longer time to get the IDs.

He expressed displeasure that Nyanza region, which is his political safehold, had done poorly in registering new voters.

Raila said the way to send the ruling Jubilee regime home and bring new leadership was only through numbers.
