Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has spelled out his plans for the county in his second term in office.
Speaking at the Eldoret Sports club on Monday after he was sworn in, Mandago said he would focus on improving several sectors among them provision of water, Agriculture as well as economically empowering youth and women.
Mandago noted that he intends to ensure every household across the county has access to clean water at the end of his term.
"I will begin first by adding water volumes for our Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (Eldowas) so as to address water shortage that Eldoret residents face on almost a daily basis. Plans are already underway for us to get help from various national government institutions in relations to this water shortage menace," noted the governor.
"In Agriculture we will further subsidize sexed semen for dairy farmers to access the service at sh500 down from the current sh2,500 fee. There are several initiatives for maize and wheat farmers as well," he added.
The governor further promised to put in place measures that will enable his administration allocate at least half of its procurement opportunities to youths and women.
"We want to give 50% of our tenders to youth and women because we know they have the capacity and ability to make good use of those opportunities," he said.
In the housing sector, Mandago revealed that his administration had approached the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and the National Housing Cooperation and discussed the possibility of building low-cost county estates for the urban centre dwellers.
