Malindi member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa has announced she would prioritize Education as her Big one agenda for his constituents during her five-year tenure.
Jumwa said she would ensure both teachers and students work together to uplift the education standards of the constituency.
Speaking during the launch of Sh10 million 2016-2017 bursary allocation for students in high school.
Colleges and universities at Barani secondary school Jumwa said she would go to every school with the teachers to hold talks with the students to sensitize them on the importance of education.
She said her Big one agenda is similar to the BIG four agenda launched by president Uhuru Kenyatta which she would use to leave a legacy as the MP.
The legislator said her agenda on the education sector will include building schools, educate children, and motivate teachers.
“I would like to tell the candidates for Primary and secondary that we shall go to every school with their teachers and tell them the goodies we have planned for them, it’s the responsibility of every child to be in school,’’ she said.
The legislator said she would build the first teachers headquarters in Malindi beginning July this year to motivate them something which has not been done since 1993.
“Teachers will also have a day for motivation, I will take them for retreat when they come back they shall be fresh to continue with their work,’’ she said.
Jumwa also said she plans to push for the amendment of the education act to enable them to offer full scholarships to needy students the like the Equity banks’ Wings to fly program.
She however warned school head teachers and cartels who intend to benefit from the bursary by allocating money to ghost students warning that every beneficiary will be accounted for and parents to be given receipts for the money to avoid corruption cases
