[Photo|Dr Alfred Mutua]Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua made an impromptu visit of Machakos Level 5 Hospital where he toured the Maternity ward and spoke with health workers and patients. He was disturbed to find out that standards had started going down after he found torn linen being used in some beds. "Frankly briefing by the health workers also revealed major staffing and pharmaceutical problems. Most of these issues should not be there and I will take immediate action to maintain standards and to ensure patients receive quality healthcare and death is avoided," he said. For instance, Level 5 hospital provides hot showers for mothers but Mutua found the shower spaces, toilets and cubicles deteriorated to standards not acceptable."I thank the health workers for their hard work and promise them that I will provide them with a conducive environment to discharge their duty. I will be making critical changes in the management of our health department next month," said the governor. He noted healthcare was a right and Machakos will strive to continue providing the best health services. "That after all, is part of the hall marks of Maendeleo Chap Chap."
